Days of Future Past Help

Postby AgentSirius on Wed Feb 21, 2007 6:43 am

Hey all,

I posted this over at rpg.net too, so if you end up reading this twice, I apologize. :(

I'm looking to run a X-Men, Days of Future Past-esque game with Wild Talents and I'm kind of at a standstill for what to do with character generation. I know I want it to be a fairly cinematic game, but I'm unsure if the "mutant" template is beefy enough to support what I am planning. I was thinking of having everyone use the Human+ template, or I may just throw out the templates completely and let the player create what they like for 250-300 points.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sure.

Use the Mutant template, but let them modify it to suit their vision, with your permission.

Or, if EVERYONE is playing a mutant, then just throw out the archetypes, except for intrinsics. After all, if everyone has the same basic archetype, no reason to make everyone pay for something that everyone has.

BTW, I LOVE Days of Future Past. Don't suppose this is an online game, is it? ;)

Thanks for your input!!. No, it's not an online game, sorry. I was looking to run it on Friday night for a few of my friends.

I do not have my book with me, but what is the shortcoming with using the mutant template? Every mutant should be based on a theme if you are sticking with the Marvel concept of mutants. In addition, the person can always (with your permission) add another template. This is what you would do for Rogue, whose mutant theme is power absorption and then adds the super permission to cover Ms. Marvel's abilities. Also, IMO if you remove the templates then what distinguishes mutants from other paranormals. Remember part of the Nighmares of the Future Past storyline is that the "non-mutant" superheroes helped hunt down the mutants. In the end I do not think you need to really change things...now building sentinels will be interesting.

I'm not going to be going specifically from the comic. It's going to be a little more inspired by that Marvel canon. I still want Sentinels, somthing like Nimrod, and government controlled mutants (I'm going to call them Hounds) that are used to round up there fellow mutants. I may event drop the term mutant and just make them Talents.

I'm planning on having the series start with the PCs already in an internment camp / prison and they are going to have to plan or participare in an escape, join or form a group or rebels, and wage guerilla war on the opressors.

I'm using the old Marvel Superheroes RPG MX adventures (find them here http://www.marvelrpg.net/mx/mx.html ) as a basis for what I am planning. I've always dug Days of Future Past and the Age of Apocolypse and I'm shooting for somthing in between.

I should be a good game...a little action, a little horror, and a little sci fi all mixed into one game. I also like that series
