My Kids and Monsters

Postby Dragfag on Mon May 02, 2011 12:32 am

Hey ya'll. I enjoy working with this system so I wrote up some kids and their monster companions. Feel free to read and enjoy at your own discretion.

Mark Davidson

Mark is a kid cursed with one simple facet: People like him instinctively, even when he doesn't really want people to like him. Mark has presence, he has a commanding aura that makes other kids on the playground stop and listen to him when he has something to say. Even when what he says isn't all that important or smart, ever word he speaks tends to have a weight and gravity to it that makes people stop and realize he's talking. Which is ironic because Mark is probably one of the more anti-social kids on the playground. His mother died in a freak car accident just a year ago, and ever since his dad and him moved away from their old town to try and start-over, Mark has just been closing himself off more and more to the people around him. It's not that he's a bad kid, in fact at heart Mark is a very good kid who'll go out of his way to help people who're in danger, he just doesn't wanna make any friends right now.
Mark dresses adequately for a kid his age. Nothing really out of the ordinary can be garnered from his appearance, except maybe the grumpy expression he carries half the time. His dad does his best to make sure his son looks presentable, but the death of his wife is hitting him hard as well, and it's not uncommon for him to neglect his son in his own mourning.
Currently there are only three things that Mark cares about. His dad, his sword instructor Kevin and the last gift from his mom, an old teddy bear that he hated before... well the thing. He'll go out of his way to hide the bear if anyone comes over to his house and gets angry if anyone but him touches it, including his dad. It's probably Mark's biggest secret that he still sleeps with the teddy, something he's not willing to tell anyone.
Mark met Yuutsume because of a Field Trip to the museum of natural history. While walking through a dinosaur exhibit, a bully stole Susan's backpack and threw it into the dinosaur exhibit then ran off. Mark was the only one to see it happen, and with his conscience getting the better of him, Mark wandered into the big exhibit of dinosaur fossils where he eventually found the backpack tangled into a small fossil of the velociraptor. Mark managed to get the backpack free, but wound up breaking off a piece of the fossil in the process. Mark panicked and shoved the fossil into his own backpack and proceeded to return the thing to Susan as discretely as possible.
Mark returned home, stolen dinosaur bone in backpack, and proceeded to bury the thing in his backyard, hoping none of the neighbour dogs would dig it up. They didn't thankfully, it just sorta came up on it's own when a small chicken-like creature with razor-sharp talons came into Mark's room and asked him for a glass of water.

Mark's Monster: Yuustume
Appearance: Yuustume is a dinosaur. But not like those ones in the movies and books. In fact, he's kinda small, bird-like and looks more like a leaner, vicious looking chicken then he does like those cool reptile things from Jurassic Park. Still, he's pretty intimidating in his own right, mostly because of the two giant talons on his feet and the blue crest of feathers he's got on his head. He's kinda mundane aside from that, but still pretty vicious and scary looking when he needs to be.
Personality: Yuustume is surprisingly well-spoken and even-tempered when you get down to it. Despite Mark's initial freaking out over him being there, he managed to calm the boy down enough to convince him that not only did he mean no harm, but he also was simply there to observe and help wherever he could. Yuustume is a supposedly "honourable" warrior who attempts to be polite to a tee, but this tends to fall apart whenever someone compares him to a chicken. In which case, he goes berserk and starts ripping people to shreds.
Way To Hide: Yuustume hides in probably the most ridiculous manner possible. He always hides "in the open" by badly disguising himself as things like a stuffed animal or putting on a lamp's cover to pretend to be a light himself (mysteriously developing the ability to make his head glow in the process). Adults never seem to notice this for some reason, but when he's travelling with Mark he just tends to hide inside his backpack.
Favourite Thing: Raw meat. What? Yuutsume is still a carnivore. It doesn't matter if it's cow or pig or Mrs Brisby meat. As long as it's uncooked and dripping with meaty juices, he's happy.

Bits and Bobs
Locations 1-2 Streamlined Body 7 Dice, Defends, Wicked Fast X2, Awesome X1.
Locations 3-4 Striking Hawk Eyes 6 Dice, Useful (can analyze people's and monster's abilities), Awesome X2, Wicked Fast 2.
Location 6-7 Sharp Talons and gnarly teeth 5 Dice, Attacks, Gnarly X2, Wicked Fast X3
Location 8-10 World-Rending-God-Killing-Dino-Sword 8 Dice, Attacks, Useful (can basically cut through anything that isn't Dragonforceium, which is apparently the most powerful metal known to man kind), Gnarly X2, Awesome X2, Tough X2.

Notes

With his streamlined body, Yuustume can avoid attacks before they're even launched at him, making him an expert at dodging and avoiding attacks. Because of the awesome quality, he's also more likely to get a success on his dodging, although he still can't really do much else with it.
His striking hawk eyes allow him to observe people and monsters and instantly get a read out on their abilities and weaknesses. This works much like the Brains+Out-think ability of a similar type. But this allows Yuustume to know the exact hit-location, dice number and general statistics of any monster or person he can see.
His sharp talons are more of a secondary weapon when he needs to handle things quickly and without bringing out the big guns. His talons and teeth are not only fast, but they deal 3 damage with each success, a rather potent ability when needed.
Finally, there's his aptly titled World-Rending-God-Killing-Dino-Sword, or WRGKDS for short. WRGKDS is a sword Yuustume carries around made out of Dragonforceium, a metal that opens up with incredibly long and super-fast-paced guitar rifts whenever it is drawn. Because of it's unique composition (whatever that means) this sword can basically cut through anything that isn't ALSO Dragonforceium. In terms of attacks, it's pretty potent stuff, it's got 8 dice, deals 2 extra damage on a success and is practically guaranteed a hit each time with awesome 2. Yuustume's preferred tactic is to use his eyes to analyze an opposing monster, figure out which part of it's body is the weakest part, and use his sword to try and nail that part specifically. It's not as gnarly or as fast as his talons, but it's accuracy and power is certainly more potent.

"THAT... THAT STUPID GIRL! I'll make her pay! Come on! We're going after her!"
"Control yourself Mark! This behaviour is most unbecoming of you, pray tell what's riled you up so much?"
"SHE TOOK MY TEDDY BEAR! I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE DID THAT!"
"A teddy bear? Really?"
"SHUT UP! IT'S NOT LIKE THAT!"
"Not like what? That you need that thing to sleep?"
"I said shut up! You don't know what that thing means to me!"
"Look I don't get what the problem is. You're a grown man!"
"I'm 7."
"That's only one 'teen' away from basically being an adult! I don't see why you need a teddy bear."
"... my mom gave it to me."
"What's the problem? Just get her to buy you a new one!"
"She's dead! My mom's dead!"
"... wow... uhm... I apologize for ever bringing this up."
"Are you gonna help me get it back or not!?"
"OK. But you need to remind me to never ask about people's stuffed animals ever again."

Honestly, I think it's cool enough without the random world-killing sword thing :V Yuustume can stand on his own qualities without it, I think.
